Montreal - 5th Shoe Pyramide Event

Handicap International - The Shoe Pyramid is a symbol of Handicap International's fight against anti-personnel mines and cluster munitions. Since 1995, citizens from all over Europe have come together to stand side by side with Handicap International to demand the ban of these barbaric arms and to show support for victims.

Much remains to be done today. It is important to continue our fight to make the Treaty enforceable and enforced to obtain the complete eradication of cluster munitions and to change the situation of the victims.

As the public throws more pairs onto the Pyramid, these shoes become a symbol of the devastation, misery, the limb or the life lost by thousands of men, women and children following the explosion of a landmine or ckuster munitions. The immensity of the Pyramid invariably causes one to reflect on the suffering of these victims and their families - and on our responsability to recognize and repair the violence perpetrated against their rights.

Rendez-vous September 24, 2011 at Phillips Square (Downtown Montreal).

LIonel Richie: "Hello" (1984)

"Hello" is a song by Lionel Richie. Taken as the third single from Richie's multi-platinum album Can't Slow Down, the song was released in 1984 and reached number one on three Billboard music charts: the pop chart (for two weeks), the R&B chart (for three weeks), and the adult contemporary chart (for six weeks).

The song also went to #1 on the UK Singles Chart. It is considered by many as Richie's signature song. The tune of the second verse of the song, beginning with the words: "I can see it in your eyes", is very similar to the second verse of another song, with minor note changes, that was written much earlier by a Ukrainian musician Volodymyr Ivasyuk in 1968 and is called "Chervona Ruta".

The song is particularly memorable for the line "Hello, is it me you're looking for?". In an interview broadcast in the UK on Channel 4's Top 100 Number One Hits, Richie said he had been thanked by a large number of normally tongue-tied men who had proposed marriage after a slow dance to the song.

- Lyrics:

I've been alone with you inside my mind
And in my dreams I've kissed your lips a thousand times
I sometimes see you pass outside my door
Hello, is it me you're looking for?

I can see it in your eyes
I can see it in your smile
You're all I've ever wanted, (and) my arms are open wide
'Cause you know just what to say
And you know just what to do
And I want to tell you so much, I love you ...

I long to see the sunlight in your hair
And tell you time and time again how much I care
Sometimes I feel my heart will overflow
Hello, I've just got to let you know

'Cause I wonder where you are
And I wonder what you do
Are you somewhere feeling lonely, or is someone loving you?
Tell me how to win your heart
For I haven't got a clue
But let me start by saying, I love you ...

Hello, is it me you're looking for?
'Cause I wonder where you are
And I wonder what you do
Are you somewhere feeling lonely or is someone loving you?
Tell me how to win your heart
For I haven't got a clue
But let me start by saying ... I love you

Big Leap Forward In Communication Technology For The Deaf

* First Video:

* Second Video:

It's being called a big leap forward in communication technology for the deaf and hard-of-hearing and the product roll-out happened right here in Rochester. Sorenson Communications, a company dedicated to connecting deaf people and hearing worlds, launched a new product at RIT's National Technical Institute for the Deaf.

It's called "N-Touch" for PC and "N-Touch" for Mobile. Sorenson Communications is a world leader in what's called "video relay services". It allows deaf and hard-of-hearing people to set up a video phone so they can use sign language and communicate with friends and family all over the world.

Now, that video connection can travel with you on a laptop computer and certain cell phones using the 3G, 4G or wifi networks.

Right now, "N-Touch" for Mobile is only available on the Android Evo. And "N-Touch" for PC only works with Windows.

But for people who rely on sign language to communicate, it's a major milestone.

"A deaf person in the past, if they left their home they wouldn't be able to communicate to a hearing person," said Pat Nola, CEO of Sorenson Communications. "But now they can leave and just like a hearing person talk on a telephone. Now a deaf person can use their cell phone to call up an interpreter, see an interpreter on their cell phone and communicate to a hearing person through their cell phone."
